PixFlip Animator is a nice free tool designed to help you create AVI video files containing an animated slideshow built using a set of image files and digital photographs of your choice. The AVI creation process is extremely simple and the quality of the resulting video files is always rewarding. The program will allow you to select any combination of JPEG, BMP, TIFF, and PNG image files to build your slideshow.
The program's functionality is extremely simple, and requires very little effort on your side – just add and combine as many supported image files as you wish and put them in the order of your choice. You have the possibility of previewing the slideshow before creating the AVI file – you can then try changing the frame rate and see how it affects playback. When exporting your slideshow to an AVI file you are offered the possibility of adding some background audio to it – you can select any WAV file for that purpose.
This high level of simplicity has its pros and cons. On the pros side, the one-window user interface, together with the lack of complicated settings regarding bit rates and aspect ratios, certainly speed up the overall conversion process. On the cons side, however, the absolute lack of help files does not make it any easier for users to understand things as simple as how to make the slideshow runs slower, or how the rate of “frames per second” will affect the quality of the resulting AVI file. It will not take you more than a few minutes – and some test and error – to find out how to make the most of this free tool.
